Lesnícky časopis - Forestry Journal publishes original papers of basic and applied research from all fields of forestry and game management, discussion papers, reports and book-reviews. Manuscripts are submitted to the approval by the editorial board which appoints reviewers. Reviewed manuscripts with comments on the contents and style are sent to the authors for revision or completion. The author is responsible for the originality of his manuscript, (it or any other form of the processing of given problems corresponding substantially with the manuscript) has not been published or is not being considered for publication elsewhere. The original paper should not exceed 20 pages including all figures-pen-sketches, tables, photos, references and English summary. The manuscript should be written on A4-sized paper (210 × 297 mm) with double space and 30 type-written lines on the page. The manuscripts printed in Microsoft Word text editor are welcome. Abbreviations, symbols, formulae, foreign letters should be in the manuscript uniform and clear. Formulae and equations with indexes should be clear in right distance from basic line. Equations should be numbered consecutively by Arabic numerals in square bracket on the right margin of the page. Foreign letters, letters of Greek alphabet and other signs should be written clearly in pen. The manuscript should be submitted to editor with duplicate. Illustrations are submitted without duplicate. Inadequately prepared manuscripts will be returned to the author.

The structure of original scientific paper:

The article starts with brief and informative title, author` s first name and family name without academic titles. 


Concise resume of the article not exceeding 200 words and including keywords: (max. 5)

Introduction and problems

The formulation of scientific problem and relation of solved work to previous works with similar subject. The introduction should be brief, informative.


Material and methods
Working method should be described sufficiently, scientific problem should be formulated clearly. Comprehensive, logically arranged outline of new, original knowledge and their critical evaluation with particular conclusions.

Theoretical assessment of results and their critical comparison with other authors and previous articles. If purposeful discussion and results can be given in common part. Discussion cannot be replaced simply by the results summary.


The list of all references used. Only the publications cited in the text are given. The citations are arranged in alphabetical order: family name, name abbreviation, whole title of the work, journal abbreviation, volume, year, number, the first and last page. With the book are given as follows: family name, name abbreviation, whole title of the work (with anthology: In: title of anthology), place of publishing, publisher, year and number of pages. The works with more than 3 authors are cited only by the name of the first author and et al. abbreviation is used. Literature is given in original language, with Cyrillic alphabet international transliteration is used, titles of journals and their abbreviations are written according to the World List of Scientific Periodicals. Diploma` s, postgraduate` s, doctor` s, final and other papers are not cited. At the end of the article the author(s) gives his first name, family name and full address of his affiliation.


Can be used for summarizing of greater number of numerical data, to shorten the article or make it more distinct. Tables should as a rule comprise the results of mathematica-statistical processing of data and not whole sets of measured values. The headings of all columns and lines should be marked by text or symbol. Tables are numbered consecutively by Arabic numerals and usually their brief and distinct title is given. Tables should be written on separate sheets of paper and given at the end of the article whereas a place where should be listed is marked on the left margin of the text. Headings and titles should be given in English.


(Graphs, photos) complete the text where the words are insufficiently brief and distinct. Their number should be as low as possible. Black-and-white photos with sharp contrast should be on glazed, smooth paper. Colour photos are not published. Figures – pen-sketches should be finished, additional changes during proof-reading are not possible. Low-quality figures are not corrected. They should be drawn in ink on high-quality white or tracing paper or on foils. All figures should be described uniformly by one type of letters so they should have a height of 2 mm when printed. Whole words should not be included in the figures. Legends to figures should be written below each other on separate paper. Each figure should have its number, first name and family name of the author written in pencil on the back. Figures are not inserted into the text but a place where should be inserted is marked on the left margin of particular page. Texts to figures and legends should be given in English. For technical reasons we ask to give all figures in an envelope.


Is given only with original paper. It should be concise as together with references to figures and tables provides the reader sufficient information on the methods and obtained results. Its length should not exceed 1 page (30 type–written lines) and should be given in English. The author is responsible for English text.

Discussion paper

Its length is maximally 10 pages including supplements (figures, tables, etc.). An abstract in Slovak and English should be added. The structure of discussion paper is similar to the one of original paper.


Should not exceed 4 pages. As the report belongs to news, tables, references and summary are not added. It informs the reader on the subject and the role of conferences, seminars, how new scientific knowledge are implemented in the practice, and new measures are prepared and realized.


Should be critical with emphasis on main merits and shortcomings of the work and with regard to the readers. They should include brief account of whole book and critical remarks on its content, style, printing, or quality translation as well as more significant proposals for corrections and supplements. Reviews only describing the work without professional assessment will not be published. The length of the review is max. 3 pages. Editor accepts reviews max. within 1 year from book publication. Reviews of textbooks are not accepted.


Authors of original and discussion papers will receive 20 off-prints, others proportionally.
