Lykožrút smrekový sa vyskytuje v smrekových porastoch po celom Slovensku, na mnohých miestach však iba v latentnom štádiu. K premnoženiu lykožrúta smrekového dochádza prevažne po vetrových polomoch a po obdobiach dlhotrvajúceho sucha. Projekt on-line monitoringu lykožrúta smrekového umožňuje dlhodobo monitorovať aktuálny stav jeho populácie na celom území Slovenska.
