Expected outcomes
The project objectives will be expressed by following expected outcomes:
- Schemes of optimized management scenarios for complex of stand and site conditions in Slovakia and selected case study area. Schemes will include the recommended tree species composition, description and time frame of management interventions, provision of productive and non-productive functions. Schemes will be presented along with possible trajectories of development of representative stands as an interactive tool for decision making support in forestry management planning.
- Probabilistic model of stand decline or infestation by harmful agents, derived from empirical data of forest management inventories. The model will take the form of mathematical relationships determining the rate of attack based on tree species composition and stand age.
- Software tools. Planned software tools are: a) specific analytical tools for processing of simulation results; b) supporting tools for simulations of large sets of model stands; c) software application of the model for the risk of stand decline or damage due to the harmful agents. Tools will be developed in Python language upon the library for the most common calculations in forestry. This library - pyForest - will enable rapid development of software applications for forestry research and its publication as an open source project is assumed.
- Professional seminar focused on optimizing forest management practices in terms of changing climate, promoting the project results.
